A Reflection on Impermanence

Multi-faithReflectiveParentPartner / SpouseGrandparentFriend
All things arise and all things pass away.

This is the truth at the heart of our existence: that nothing in this world is permanent, and yet everything is precious precisely because it does not last.

The blossom is beautiful not in spite of its brief flowering, but because of it. The sunset moves us not because it will last, but because it is already fading even as we watch.

So it is with a human life. Its beauty lies not in its length but in its depth, not in its permanence but in the love it holds while it endures.

The one we remember today lived fully within the span they were given. They loved, they struggled, they laughed, they grew. They left their mark on us and on the world, and that mark does not vanish with their passing.

Let us not cling to what is gone, for that brings only suffering. Let us instead hold gently what remains: the love, the lessons, the gratitude for having shared this fleeting, extraordinary life.

In letting go, we honour both the life that was and the peace that now follows. May we find serenity in this understanding.
